Solutions ›› Branding and Positioning
Traditionally, "branding" refers to the application of identifying elements to your company that come in contact with people in the outside world – people such as customers, partners, vendors, the media, and prospective employees. Identifying elements include your logo, color palette, graphical style, written style/personality, spokespersons, personas used in advertising, characteristic styling of physical products, certain company policies (such as how employees answer the phone or capitalize the company's name in emails), and any philosophical or cultural statements or actions made by your company that convey an essence of what you're all about.
Increasingly however, social media has shifted much of the control of a firm's brand from companies to consumers, who collectively can often have more influence than the company over how it is perceived – either positively or negatively – by the masses. Through strategic social media marketing, careful planning mixed with flexibility, and the development of intelligent policies, it is possible to harness the power of this paradigm shift rather than get crushed by it.
"Positioning" refers to orienting all aspects of a firm's or product's marketing mix (price, features, messaging, promotion, etc.) toward one or more target segments, thereby resonating with customers' unique needs and differentiating oneself from competitors.
Through the proper coordination of branding, social media, and positioning strategies, firms can enjoy significant competitive advantages such as increased awareness, conversion, satisfaction, loyalty, retention, publicity, and – of course – revenue. Unfortunately, many firms' brands exist with little or no strategy, or have not been refreshed recently or updated to conform to external trends. This is where SpinSix comes in.
